BikeMi


For those who do not know WHAT 'BikeMi ( www.bikemi.it ) is bike-sharing service in Milan.
After a week of "test" of the service are particularly optimistic, with a couple of doubts.
I did the test with these reasons:
  • live outside Milan and finish each day by train, take me behind the bike would be a challenge all'incompenetrabilità volumes (commuter)
  • my job is about 40 minutes walk from the station, close to some BikeMi
  • stations on the way on foot through a good number of cycle and pedestrian areas
  • I need to do at least a minimum of 36 euro bike :-)
  • are not too many to do a test
A tip: for how much haste you have, as you travel once they leave the bike always rehearse the card on the pay station to confirm the correct coupling. It happened to me to discover that "my" bike has gone without me around for an hour.

I find that the system is brilliant: the mechanism favors movements short and therefore the probability of finding a bike remains quite high. The question is more related to the fact that the system holds much more that the paths are "random" but there are "terminals" (such as the station) that is emptied regularly in the morning and fills up regularly the evening. We are the "trucks" to move the bike from the station too full, but this shift can not be continuous. The risk is that the success of the system puts pressure on this critical point.
Maybe another time we talk about cycling. I leave you with a "provocation" BikeMi is a referendum on the cycling of Milan.
